We are thrilled to share with you the exciting occasion of the graduation ceremony for 60 remarkable ladies who have successfully completed the "Fill Me with Colour" upskilling project organized by the Valerie Cares Foundation in partnership with Mastercard Foundation.
The event was a true celebration of beauty, talent, empowerment, and community.
The ceremony was graced by esteemed guests, including Felix Baidoo and Adwoa Amoah from the Mastercard Foundation, as well as Zahrati Boateng, the Managing Director of Africa Business Heroes. Their presence added an extra layer of significance to the evening, emphasizing the importance of investing in skill development and empowering young women in the beauty industry.
The evening kicked off with the arrival of guests at 5 pm at the FitzGerald in Cantonments, guided by the professional and welcoming ushers from Beyond Management. The ambiance was set with a heartfelt opening prayer led by Vanessa Yeboah, one of the project participants, followed by an inspiring opening speech by Karen Tackie, the Head of Operations at Valerie Cares Foundation and an inspiring speech from one of our intership partners and Founder of Avenue A Beauty Lounge and Spa - Mrs Naomi Effah.
One of the highlights of the evening was the moving testimonials from Mrs. Adiza Ibrahim, an esteemed Marketing and Media Relations entrepreneur for Electroland Ghana and a dedicated advocate for adolescents and women in the Zongo livelihood and empowerment program.
She spoke about how she nominated five Muslim women from the marginalized Zongo community, who face identity and cultural barriers, for the program. Mrs. Ibrahim highlighted their transformative journey through this nine month program, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the support, sense of community, and emphasis on identity and skill development. She expressed how she witnessed their newfound confidence and boldness in pursuing careers within the makeup industry and their new skill set in makeup artistry.
Three participants, Maureen Ofori, Louisa Mahama, and Vincentia Agbeko, shared their impactful stories during the event. They reflected on their shifts in perspective, perception, and self-identity, alongside the development of new skill sets, a sense of community, and sisterhood. Speaking about their transformative nine-month journey, they expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity and how it has influenced their careers in the beauty industry. The participants extended heartfelt thanks to the foundation's founder, Mrs. Valerie Marfo, for her dedication, vision, and utilization of her industry experience and networks to make the program possible. Additionally, they expressed appreciation for all partners and supporters for their generosity and support throughout the program.
While dinner was being served by Leeyas Kitchen, an impactful video of the program was beautifully played and narrated by Mrs. Valerie Marfo, the Director and Founder of Valerie Cares Foundation.
The certificate presentation by Mastercard Foundation representatives Mr. Felix Baidoo and Mrs. Adwoa Amoah and Ms. Samira Busari, A director at the Valerie Cares Foundation, brought a sense of achievement and pride to the graduates and their families.
Each graduate received certificates, makeup kits, and new Samsung phones, symbolizing their readiness to embark on their professional paths with confidence, beauty products and tools and skills they have acquired throughout the program. The evening concluded with an inspiring and encouraging speech from Mrs. Valerie Marfo, who encouraged the graduates to own their stories, think beyond the apps and redefine stereotypes in the beauty industry with uniqueness, creativity and empowerment.
As we reflect on this fulfilling occasion, we are reminded of the transformative power of education, mentorship, and community support in shaping the future of young women in Ghana. The Valerie Cares Foundation remains dedicated to empowering women and fostering a culture of intelligence, innovation and leadership in the beauty industry.
