A Day in the Life of our 2023 Fill Me With Colour Upskilling Project Participant.
At the Valerie Cares Foundation, our commitment to empowering individuals through education and skill-building is at the heart of everything we do. The Fill Me With Color Upskill Project stands as a testament to this dedication, providing participants with a transformative journey toward personal and professional growth. Today, we invite you to step into the shoes of an Upskill Project participant and witness their inspiring daily routine on training days.
Morning Inspirations:
As the sun rises, participants begin their day with purpose and determination. Mornings are more than just routines; they are opportunities to set intentions and aspirations. Fuelled by hope and the promise of progress, each participant is encouraged to embrace the day ahead and get in on time to start our sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 am and sign in to the groups they have been assigned to.
Educators usually get in 30 minutes before our sessions start, to go over their notes with their colleagues and to prepare for the day.
Our facilitators come in an hour before time to ensure the environment and entire place is conducive, safe, and ready for our participants, arrange seats, set up our kits, and lights, arrange chairs, and welcome the participants.
A Journey of Learning:
We start each session with a word of prayer from either a participant or an educator.
With minds eager to absorb knowledge, participants dive into skill-building workshops, usually by recapping the previous topics from our last sessions.
From technical expertise to soft skills that foster effective communication and collaboration, every session is a stepping stone toward their personal and professional development.
The dedication to learning is palpable in the air, as participants engage wholeheartedly in their personal pursuit of growth.
Community and Connection:
Snacktime is between 12 pm – 12:30 pm and serves as a bridge between lessons, discussions, and collaboration. Participants share not just meals but experiences, insights, and laughter. These moments of connection form the foundation of a supportive community, where everyone's journey is intertwined, and learning is nurtured and encouraged through shared stories.
Unlocking Insights through interactive discussions and mentor led lessons.
Afternoons (12:45 pm – 1:30 pm) are reserved for interactive discussions and continued mentor-led sessions. Here, participants share real-world scenarios, learning to navigate challenges with creativity and critical thinking. The presence of experienced mentors and educators offers a unique opportunity to gain insights from those who have walked similar paths, providing both guidance and inspiration.
Expanding Horizons Beyond the Classroom:
As the day's scheduled sessions come to a close, participants venture beyond the classroom's boundaries. Embracing their daily assignments and work responsibilities, we foster the anticipation of witnessing continuous growth and meaningful contributions. By applying their newfound skills in practical scenarios, they transform theoretical knowledge into tangible results. Through these efforts, participants make valuable contributions to their communities and the industry as a whole, bridging the crucial divide between education and real-world impact.
Pause, Connect, and Renew:
As the day comes to a close, participants are urged to dedicate moments for introspection and revitalization. Recognizing their achievements and identifying areas for further development, they equip themselves for the forthcoming sessions.
Our group chat unites participants, educators, facilitators, and our safeguarding office, fostering seamless communication and an avenue to address any queries that may arise during their weekly engagements. This practice prevents any communication gaps between sessions and facilitates an ongoing exchange of ideas and information.
By following this practice, a perpetual cycle of enhancement is nurtured, firmly establishing an unwavering commitment to perpetual learning.
