On Tuesday 7th March 2023, Valerie Cares Foundation began a one-month Train the Trainer Program for the educators on the 2023 Fill Me with Colour Upskilling Program which ended on Thursday 30th March 2023. The training took place at AfricaWorks, Airport residential in Accra.
The foundation views the Train the Trainer Program as a fundamental requisite to ensure participants of the 2023 Fill Me with Colour Upskilling Program receive nothing short of an excellent learning experience. Overall, the program sought to impact or enforce the following qualities in all trainees who subsequently become educators under the program.
Firstly, to sharpen the skill of presenting information through teaching simply and effectively, direct participants to the right resources, lead group discussions and encourage class participation, listen attentively and make accurate observations to attend and address specific needs of each participant, guide participants to relate new things learned to their careers and lastly how to relate with participants and manage probably challenges encountered in the classroom.
The lead educator on this program was Mrs. Valerie Marfo; a multi-award-winning makeup artist, global beauty strategist, and associate lecturer. There were four trainees under her tutelage namely; Amanda Naayire (Mandyvylz Beauty), Khadijah Mohammed (Khadijah Adams), Brightena Adedai (Braines Beauty & Makeup Co.), and Kaladata Olero Oruwariye (Kaladata Beauty), all professionals in the beauty space who are keen on self-development and impact.
To help facilitate the program, training manuals were provided to guide the sessions. Topics covered included safeguarding, self-identity, hygiene, makeup theory, makeup practical sessions, communication, human relations, and time management.
The sessions were thorough, interactive, engaging, reinforcing, practical and educative. During the final sessions, the trainees took charge of the sessions as an exercise to share their knowledge, demonstrate their teaching skills and get objective feedback.
At the beginning and end of the training sessions, the trainees filled out a pre-assessment and a post-assessment form, to ascertain how impactful and beneficial the training has been to them and if we achieved the goal of the training. The average score shows that indeed the training was highly impactful and we met our objectives for the training.
